Morning Habits to Reduce Work-Related Stress

We’ve all been there where we have struggled with bringing our work stress home with us. It can be hard to let frustrations go during the day, but we have some of the best pieces of advice to help you navigate that stress. 

Everyone is different, but stress comes in waves, but the best thing you can do is prepare by setting yourself up for success. Stressful situations are a part of life, but it is all about your reaction. If you create positive and healthy habits in the morning before work, you are more likely to react positively to stressors that arise during work. Here are some of our favorite morning habits to help combat stress at work. 

Exercise

One of the best ways to set yourself up for success in the morning before is to work out. Do any exercise that feels right to you, whether that is a bike ride, yoga, or weight lifting. We are all busy individuals, so try not to pressure yourself about the length of your workout; movement of 30 minutes a day is more than enough. 

Exercise in the morning is beneficial to shift your circadian rhythm for better sleep, your body produces more cortisol, and your body also produces endorphins and serotonin. 

Clear your inbox the night before 

End the night by clearing through your inbox. When you wake up and check your full mailbox first thing, it is immediately an added stressor to your day. Start your day off right by ending your night by getting through any last-minute needs. 

Not only will you have a more relaxing morning, but you will sleep much better at night knowing nothing is pressing, and there isn’t anyone awaiting your response. Emails are inevitable, but do what you can to minimize stress for your morning self. 

Make it a point to do something for yourself

A lot of the work week can feel draining because we are giving most of our energy to our job, and we can neglect to take care of ourselves. Every morning make it a point to do something for yourself. It can be something small it doesn’t have to be grandiose. This could be going for your morning latte, taking a shower, journaling, or watching your morning YouTube videos. 

When you notice and make a point to do something positive for yourself, it can heavily change your mood and perspective. Showing up for yourself will not only uplift your mood but will allow you to show up for others throughout the day.
